Antidote to curse- a biblical viewpoint
Is honour and curse linked? What does Bible have to say about it?
Actually, Bible puts a lot of emphasis on “honour”. We are taught to give honour where it is due.
Romans 13:7, ESV: Pay to all what is owed to them: taxes to whom taxes are owed, revenue to whom revenue is owed, respect to whom respect is owed, honor to whom honor is owed.
Let us visit some cases of dishonour in the Bible.
- Ham dishonoured his father Noah- Genesis9:20-28
- Reuben slept with his father’s concubine- Genesis 35:22
- Elisha and Gehazi 2Kings 5:13-27. Gehazi brought disrepute to Elisha’s ministry by lying to Naaman.
- “Honor your father and mother (which is the first commandment with a promise), that it may be well with you…” Eph 6:2-3
As dishonour brings curses, honouring others invokes blessings.
And if you are embarking on this mission to be counted as blessed, then follow Jesus’ example.
Bible calls those “blessed” who show love to strangers, aliens, people spending nights in public squares, prisoners, needy, downtrodden, castaway by society and sinners.
The antidote to curse- stubborn, inherited or self imposed is to follow Jesus’ teaching in Matthew 25.
See Jesus in others and honour them!
