Antidote to curse- a biblical viewpoint

Is honour and curse linked? What does Bible have to say about it?

Actually, Bible puts a lot of emphasis on “honour”. We are taught to give honour where it is due.

Romans 13:7, ESV: Pay to all what is owed to them: taxes to whom taxes are owed, revenue to whom revenue is owed, respect to whom respect is owed, honor to whom honor is owed.

Let us visit some cases of dishonour in the Bible.

  • Ham dishonoured his father Noah- Genesis9:20-28
  • Reuben slept with his father’s concubine- Genesis 35:22
  • Elisha and Gehazi 2Kings 5:13-27. Gehazi brought disrepute to Elisha’s ministry by lying to Naaman.
  •  “Honor your father and mother (which is the first commandment with a promise), that it may be well with you…” Eph 6:2-3

As dishonour brings curses, honouring others invokes blessings.
And if you are embarking on this mission to be counted as blessed, then follow Jesus’ example.
Bible calls those “blessed” who show love to strangers, aliens, people spending nights in public squares, prisoners, needy, downtrodden, castaway by society and sinners.

34 Then the King will say to those on His right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave Me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave Me something to drink, I was a stranger and you took Me in, 36 I was naked and you clothed Me, I was sick and you looked after Me, I was in prison and you visited Me.’ 37Then the righteous will answer Him, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You something to drink? 38 When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? 39 When did we see You sick or in prison and visit You?’ And the King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of Mine, you did for Me.

Matthew 25:31-39

The antidote to curse- stubborn, inherited or self imposed is to follow Jesus’ teaching in Matthew 25.
See Jesus in others and honour them!
