Applying grace to nullify the challenge of the serpent spirit
Three times Apostle Paul approached Lord Jesus in prayer for deliverance from what Bible describes as “a thorn in the flesh.” And each time the Lord replied,”My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made complete in your weakness. All our issues require spiritual answers. We should quit looking for worldly wisdom and depending on human understanding, rather seek the Holy Spirit. For every challenge that the serpent spirit throws at us, an equal and even more grace of our Lord Jesus is made available to us. All we have to do is understand “grace” and apply it.
Here are some practical ways of doing so: 1) Know grace: Grace is Jesus Christ. Refer John 1:17 “For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.” Without grace there is no salvation of souls. Refer Ephesians 2:8-9 “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.” Through human efforts we will never be able to overcome the demon spirits. So, to know grace personally. we have to keep meditating on grace, Jesus Christ. Among others, some ways to do so are to keep talking grace, sharing testimonies, journaling them and praying with thanksgiving. 2) Appreciate the ministry of Lord Jesus. Old Testament has numerous generals of faith. But “Jesus” is different. It’s not so much about the miracles, but rather the solution for the persistent problem of “sin” that is the focus when we consider grace. Again, the practical way to appreciate the ministry of Jesus is to think about the “forgiveness of our sins”. Remember the worst of your sins and how forgiveness of Lord Jesus wiped away the guilt of those sins. Keep a record of it. When the serpent spirit attacks, read it or better still speak it outloud to yourself. 3) Have intimacy with the Holy Spirit. It’s a spirit world! Make, develop and maintain a relationship with Holy Spirit. In this world, there are only two camps- Jesus is one and the other is Satan. Jesus camp is powered by the Holy Spirit and Satan camp is powered by the serpent spirit. Now, choose therefore whom you will serve. Because, we become what we worship and serve. Without the Holy Spirit, it is impossible to be victorious over the serpent spirit. So, treasure the Holy Spirit. love Him, depend on His counsel. And wait on Him. One practical way is to do this is to “talk” to Him like you would do with a loved one. Involve Holy Spirit in daily activities. Speak in tongues. Sing love songs to Him. Another way is to “wait” on Him. Developing a relationship requires serious effort and focus. It may take time but the results that follow out weigh the effort in a big way. 4) Acknowledge our insufficiency before Holy Spirit. “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 5:3). Once we personally know and have a realization that without the Holy Spirit our world is paralyzed, we will start earnestly seeking and depending on Him. This is where our victory lies. The more infilling we have of the Holy Spirit, the easier it is to discern the deception of the serpent spirit and nullify it.
Beloved, through Jesus Christ grace has come to us. And this grace has brought an outpouring of the Holy Spirit on all who accept Jesus as their Saviour and Lord. So, when an agent of the serpent spirit attacks us and we run to Lord Jesus to seek deluverance, the grace of Lord Jesus is triggered and Holy Spirit begins to work in our situations according to His will. An army of heavenly angelic spirits fight demon spirits to nullify the spiritual attack. So, be encouraged and focus on grace, an undeserved favour that is released every time we pray. See yourself blessed and an overcomer because of GRACE in the midst of your worst challenges… this is where our victory as a Christian lies.
… to keep me from thinking of myself as important, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan, to torment and harass me—to keep me from exalting myself! Concerning this I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might leave me; but He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you [My lovingkindness and My mercy are more than enough—always available—regardless of the situation]; for [My] power is being perfected [and is completed and shows itself most effectively] in [your] weakness.” Therefore, I will all the more gladly boast in my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ [may completely enfold me and] may dwell in me. 2Corinthians 12:7-9
