Look, the Lamb of God! John 1:36
When John the Baptist had to introduce Lord Jesus to the world, he used the phrase “Lamb of God.”
John 1:29 says- “The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” All four gospels state that John the Baptist introduced Jesus to us as “the Lamb of God”. He could have used more powerful titles like -the King of kings or the Lord of lords or Son of God etc. But John the Baptist, filled with the Holy Spirit addressed Lord Jesus as the Lamb of God.
The mission of Lord Jesus’ birth was to provide the world a solution for sin. And Lord Jesus has at various occasions broached this topic. Refer- Matthew 26:24 Amplified Bible (AMP) The Son of Man is to go [to the cross], just as it is written [in Scripture] of Him. The second mention appears in Mark 9:30–32 (and also in Matthew 17:22–23) as follows: He said to them, “The Son of Man is going to be betrayed into the hands of men. They will kill him, and after three days he will rise.” But they did not understand what he meant and were afraid to ask him about it.
And again in Hebrew 10: 8–10 Therefore when Christ came into the world, He said sacrifice and offering, burnt offerings, and offerings for sin You did not desire, nor had pleasure in them” (which are offered according to the law), then He said, “Behold, I have come to do Your will, O God.” He takes away the first that He may establish the second. By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
These all verses point to the fact that Jesus’ death on Cross of Calvary fulfilled Jehovah’s will. Although, the miracles which Lord Jesus performed cannot be undermined, but the key reason was to provide atonement for the sins of the world. No human sacrifice can substitute or be even a close equivalent to the supreme sacrifice which Lord Jesus made. With all our knowledge, the technical know-how and scientific progress we have made, man can never provide solution for sin. Only Lord Jesus did it and so aptly He is Jesus, the Messiah or the Saviour. He is the only true Saviour!
As we look forward to Christmas, a celebration of the birth of Lord Jesus, we should with great reverence worship Him for what He has accomplished for us on the Cross of Calvary. Although, we can never fully comprehend the extend of Jehovah’s love for us, let us in our own special way thank Him for the priceless gift of Jesus, the Christ.
I love you Lord Jesus!
