Holy Spirit, A Miracle Worker
This is a true incident. A young Christian girl applied to many schools for admission to engineering course. Her prospects looked quite bright and she was expectantly awaiting the call from schools. Unfortunately, she could not make it any of those. She was totally heart broken. She shared her situation with the Pastor. He encouraged her to be faithful in prayer and not to give up hope. Despite the set back, she continued to press on and seek the Holy Spirit for His will. And a few months rolled by, then one day her dad went on an official trip to a distant town. And it so happened that there he met a professor who was teaching in a reputed university. Admissions were still going on in this university and the professor offered to help with the admission process. Over the period of next couple days, this young Christian girl was admitted in the school and Holy Spirit gave her a wonderful testimony. Praise God!
We all know Holy Spirit as a sanctifier and a comforter. His common representation is that of a white dove. And He is of course a sanctifier, and a comforter. But then equally significantly, a miracle worker too. Yes, Holy Spirit’s sphere of influence encompasses the whole world. While we have finite understanding of the situation, Holy Spirit knows the big picture. So, He does big things which make big impact and achieve 100% success in ensuring the plan and purposes of God are accomplished for our lives.
But many times, we are so deeply offended and wounded that we give up on the Holy Spirit. That’s because we get deceived by the serpent into thinking that the problem is beyond mend. This is similar to how he deceived Eve in the garden of Eden by lying to her. Serpent is extremely crafty. Sometimes, he even uses our emotions to trick us into believing a lie. Beloved, Holy Spirit is all powerful and all knowing Spirit of Jehovah. Nothing is impossible for Him. But we give up on seeking Him… too soon. Rather, we should continue to press in till we receive our miracle. Besides, during the course of waiting and seeking, grace upon grace is unleashed on our lives.
The psalmist says in Psalm 119: 50 “My comfort in my suffering is this: Your promise preserves my life.” And what is the PROMISE for us believers who have made Jesus as our Lord and Saviour? It is the HOLY SPIRIT. Yes, Lord Jesus has promised us that He will never leave us alone. So, He sent His Holy Spirit to be with us. Holy Spirit strengthens us when we are weak. He helps us in our afflictions. No one may understand, but Holy Spirit understands because He lives in us. A wounded sheep is strengthened by the Holy Spirit. A broken spirit and a contrived heart, Holy Spirit does not despise rather heals. He has the ability to build what was destroyed and to restore what was lost. Holy Spirit is Gods’ muscle. One important attribute of Holy Spirit is that He leads sinners to repentance. He daily transforms lives.
Through this blog, I want to present three points:
- Holy Spirit is a promise: Pursue the Holy Spirit. When alone or discouraged, seek the Holy Spirit. Search for Him as someone searches for a precious jewel. Continue to press in to touch Him in the spirit man. Everyday we need a fresh infilling of the Holy Spirit. We need His wisdom and strength to successfully accomplish our tasks. Holy Spirit knows the mind of God, and guides us to pray the will of God for our lives. The joy and consolation we receive after prayer is the evidence that we made a breakthrough while labouring in prayer and received a touch of the Holy Spirit in our spirit. Holy Spirit is a miracle worker. He is faithful. He will never fail us. He is trustworthy and omnipotent. And He loves us! He always cares for us and leads us in triumph, despite our short comings because we are in Christ Jesus.
- Speaking in tongues: Beloved. Holy Spirit is energy. And every believer in Christ needs to invest in this. It is not just a force, but a personal presence that empowers, guides, and transforms. For example- before we start our devotions, we should energize our spirits by speaking in tongues. Speak until we feel a release in the spirit. Speaking in tongues is one of the best ways to clear the clutter accumulated in our souls and prepare us for devotion. This is the same divine energy that came upon Elijah as he out ran Ahab’s chariot in 1Kings 18:46. It is distinct from human energy. This energy is not limited or depleted, but is a boundless resource available to believers in Jesus. Every believer requires this energy to lead a transformed victorious Christian life. The most famous narrative about Holy Spirit is the day of Pentecost. The day of Pentecost is a key example, where the Holy Spirit descended upon the disciples with power and transformed them into bold witnesses for Christ.
- Faith over Fear: Holy Spirit builds our faith. Consider this verse- But you, beloved, build yourselves up on [the foundation of] your most holy faith [continually progress, rise like an edifice higher and higher], pray in the Holy Spirit, Jude1:20. Through the Holy Spirit, we deepen our relationship with God, experience His transformative power, and live a life that reflects His love and grace. When we face challenging situations or tests (which God allows to strengthen our faith and to take us to the next level) we on purpose, should read the Holy Bible and fill our spirits with words of faith. James 5:11 references Job’s perseverance, stating, “You have heard of Job’s perseverance and have seen the outcome from the Lord. Read about Jobs’ testing, and what God brought about in his life after the testing. Meditate and read about Abraham’s testing and consider the mercy of God as He dealt with the disobedient Jonah. And so many more! When we meditate on the Word of God and recall it to mind over and over again, Holy Spirit makes it powerful so it influences our thought process and conduct. Holy Spirit causes us to walk by faith and not by sight, which eventually makes a way for our miracle.
Sis Doreen single handedly brought up Aaron. She worked hard to raise him up in the ways of God. But when Aaron was in high school, he fell into bad company and went away from the Lord. Sis Doreen was left heartbroken. She use to shed bitter tears in the presence of God. She continued to make prayers and petitions to the Lord for her son, Aaron. After few years, Aaron fell sick. His friends deserted him. Sis Doreen took care of him and also the Church got involved. Church Pastors, leaders and the members of the congregation started visiting Aaron and praying for him. Then one day, one of the Church pastor led Aaron into the prayer of repentance. And Holy Spirit did amazing work in Aaron’s life. Not only did Aaron regain his lost health, but he also started seeking the Lord. This miraculous transformation is a testament to Holy Spirits’ authority and supremacy in the spirit realm.
The Holy Spirit is the source through which God performs mighty miracles, confirming the divine nature of Jesus and the truth of the gospel. Holy Spirit continues to work miracles even today. He demonstrates it through the impartation of divine gifts which He gives free according to His will to fulfil God’s plans and purposes in our lives.
Matthew 12:28: In this verse, Jesus links his ability to cast out demons to the power of the Holy Spirit, stating, “But if it is by the Spirit of God that I cast out demons, then the kingdom of God has come upon you”. This highlights the connection between the Holy Spirit and the miraculous works of Lord Jesus. Acts 19:11-12: This passage describes how God worked extraordinary miracles through Paul, even to the point where handkerchiefs and aprons that had touched him could heal the sick and cast out demons. “And God did unusual and extraordinary miracles by the hands of Paul, so that handkerchiefs or towels or aprons which had touched his skin were carried away and put upon the sick, and their diseases left them and the evil spirits came out of them.“
Holy Spirit lead me today and make my day a success. Amen
