Eve’s Only Defender
“And I will put enmity (open hostility) between you and the woman, And between your seed (offspring) and her Seed; He shall [fatally] bruise your head, And you shall [only] bruise His heel.” Genesis 3:15
Eve was innocently trapped by the serpent. We all know the story, probably one of the most shared and preached true story. This unfortunate incident resulted in the “fall of man.” As we move further, we read about the birth of Cain, Adam and Eve’s first son. And this is how Bible puts it “Now the man Adam knew Eve as his wife, and she conceived and gave birth to Cain, and she said, “I have obtained a man (baby boy, son) with the help of the LORD.” Genesis 4:1. This verse shows that the person who stood by Eve and helped her the most during her toughest time was none other than Jehovah-Elohim.
Let’s read about Sarah, Abraham’s wife and about Hagar, Sarah’s maid servant. Abimelech, the king of Gerar, takes Sarah as one of his wives. He is soon struck with an illness and visited in a dream with a warning from Jehovah-Elhohim that he will die if he doesn’t return Sarah to Abraham and if Abraham doesn’t pray for him. Sarah is returned untouched, Refer Genesis 20:1-14. Story of Hagar goes like this- Abraham gives Hagar bread and water then sends them (Hagar and Ishmael) into the wilderness of Beersheba. She and her son wander aimlessly until their water is completely consumed. In a moment of despair, Hagar bursts into tears. God hears her son crying and comes to rescue them. “Then God opened her [Hagar’s] eyes, and she saw a well of water. And she goes and fills the skin with water, and gives the lad a drink.” – Genesis 21:19. Even for Mary, the blessed mother of our Lord Jesus, the Angel of the Lord interceded with Joseph and asked him to take Mary home as his wife. Refer Matthew 1:20 “But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.”
So, my point here is that time and again, help for Eve and subsequently for all the women in the Holy Bible, has come from only one quarter and that is Lord Jesus. Be it Sarah, or be it Hagar or Mary, the mother of our Lord Jesus. or any other woman in the Bible, Lord Jesus is their only hope. And He has always been gracious and forgiving. We read about Lord Jesus’s saving grace in all his interactions with women in the Gospels. Be it be about the woman caught in the adultery, or the cannanite woman or Elizabeth, John the baptists’ mother who was barren all her life and conceived and gave birth in her old age. This is what Elizabeth said “The Lord has done this for me,” she said. “In these days he has shown his favor and taken away my disgrace among the people.”NIV: Luke 1:25.
Since the time of Eve, the serpent has always duped women to make them transgress Jehovah-Elhohim’s commands and enslave them to sinful evil desires. Even today, Lord Jesus extends pardon, complete remission of sins and a new life to all women who sincerely repent and look to Him for help. But unfortunately, many have gone looking for solutions in the world whose ruler is none other than Eve’s biggest enemy, the serpent spirit. And so they have plagued themselves with many griefs.
For Eve, her only defender and saviour was, is and will always be Lord Jesus. No one loves Eve more than Lord Jesus. 😇
