My testimony: Power of 21 days of Prayer and Fasting
Sometime back, I undertook focussed and serious twenty one (21) days of fasting. And landed in a dream job which was way above and beyond my qualifications and expectation! Thank you Lord Jesus! ❤️Holy Spirit
Background: I was struggling then at job which can be best described as “all work and no pay”. That years’ annual appraisal was probably one of my worst. Even though, I had work to show for my good performance, I was undermined and was under-rated and not promoted while massive incentives and promotions were announced across the organisation. It was humiliating!
I shared my agony with a lovely friend in the Church and she suggested 21 days of fasting. And I went for it. Here is what I did:
- No social media, very limited phone access (only for work purpose), no secular activities, and no newspaper
- Ahead of time, I decided what I would be eating during these fasts. I cutoff all the delicacies
and yummy stuff from my plate. Went for simple basic meals in restricted quantities. - Read at least five Psalms daily
- Read Bible. I often read the book of Lamentations. It appeared to be the only food for my
repentant soul. Couple times, towards the end of my devotions, a mental picture of a woman kneeling on the streets of Jerusalem crying out to Lord God in deep pain use to grip my imagination. - Did praise/ worship/ thanksgiving even though every part of my being resisted
- Spoke in tongues. I found maintaining focus at times was a challenge. So, I put on some soft
Christian music in the back ground and it helped me (as I went back and forth between
singing along and praying in tongues). Spoke for about two hours daily. - Throughout these fasts, my theme was “repentance”. I would daily look to the Holy Spirit for
help to identify my wrong doings and confess and apologise for them to the Lord. Many times I cried unconsolably as I found out that my actions were so grievous to the Holy Spirit. Even though most of these actions weren’t unbiblical but they did not edify “holiness” in me and tired me out so much that I had no strength left for the things of God. - During my fasts, I continued to go to work. I chose to be by-myself and avoided contact with colleagues other than what was work related.
- I wrote decrees and spoke them out loud. A couple of them are listed below-
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future Jeremiah 29:11
This poor man called out, and the LORD heard him; He saved him from all his troubles. The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear Him, and he delivers them. Psalm 34 6-7 Call to Me, and I will answer and show you great and unsearchable things you do not know. Jeremiah 33:3
The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. Psalm 23:1
Why do you say, O Jacob, and why do you assert, O Israel, “My way is hidden from the LORD, and my claim is ignored by my God”? Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary; His understanding is beyond searching out. He gives power to the faint and increases the strength of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall. But those who wait upon the LORD will renew their strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:27-31. One more thing, I would personalize them as in, insert my name at appropriate places.
InConclusion : First things first, my joy was restored even though things didn’t look good at work. I can’t explain this in words but I was now seeing beyond my situation and unto the Holy Spirit. I received destiny-dreams from the Holy Spirit. I had some powerful encounters with angelic beings. Even today, when I look back at those instances, they serve as a means to strengthen my faith.
My answer did not come immediately after twenty-one days. It took around three months (post the completion of twenty one days of fasts) before I noticed some activity happening around my job applications. And within six months I had a new job offer – great location, fantastic pay package, lots of ESOPs and a leadership role.
Thank you Lord Jesus!
