“Father, the time has come” John 17:1
Understanding the times and the seasons in one’s life is an important aspect of Christian faith. This is because the reward of exercising faith in the Lord is not always instant. This encourages us to not base our faith on the immediate outcome of our prayers. Lord Jesus prayed thrice in the garden of Gethsemane (Refer Luke 22:42-43 “And being in agony [deeply distressed and anguished; almost to the point of death], He prayed more intently; and His sweat became like drops of blood, falling down on the ground.” If we carefully study the life of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus, one thing that stands out among others is “time”. Everything in His life was done as willed by the Heavenly Father and only at those times that were appropriated by heaven. We can notice that even when Paul talks about the birth of Lord Jesus, he does not omit the use of the word time but rather lays special emphasis on it. Refer Galatians 4:4 -But when [in God’s plan] the proper time had fully come, God sent His Son, born of a woman, born under the [regulations of the] Law, so that He might redeem and liberate those who were under the Law, that we [who believe] might be adopted as sons [as God’s children with all rights as fully grown members of a family].
Prayer is our connection with the heaven. Lord Jesus encourages us to pray and to never give up. The beautiful parable of a persistent widow demonstrates it. Refer Luke 18:1-8 Now Jesus was telling the disciples a parable to make the point that at all times they ought to pray and not give up and lose heart, saying, “In a certain city there was a judge who did not fear God and had no respect for man. There was a [desperate] widow in that city and she kept coming to him and saying, ‘Give me justice and legal protection from my adversary.’ For a time he would not; but later he said to himself, ‘Even though I do not fear God nor respect man, yet because this widow continues to bother me, I will give her justice and legal protection; otherwise by continually coming she [will be an intolerable annoyance and she] will wear me out.’” Then the Lord said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says! And will not [our just] God defend and avenge His elect [His chosen ones] who cry out to Him day and night? Will He delay [in providing justice] on their behalf? I tell you that He will defend and avenge them quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will He find [this kind of persistent] faith on the earth?”
Anytime we exercise faith in prayer, Holy Spirit gives us the evidence of the faith. And what is that evidence of faith? It is the joy we experience after the prayer. This is what is more important- knowing that Holy Spirit hears us when we pray. At the right time, Holy Spirit will work out the answer for us. The enemy wants to destroy the beautiful destiny which Lord Jesus has prepared for us. That is why he attacks us to make us impatient and act in haste. Satan can use any weapon – shame, insult, anger, offence, sickness, setback, pride etc to get us to walk out of God’s will. Refuse haste, refuse worry and don’t be anxious.
Holy Spirit is extremely reliable, trustworthy, faithful, so forgiving, sane, stable, honest, supreme in wisdom and all powerful. Nothing is impossible with Him! When we do things at God’s ordained time, we astonish ourselves.
Say this aloud, “The way out for me has come. A person by the name of Holy Spirit is working out the answer for me.”
Beloved, Holy Spirit never fails!
